A man convicted of raping a woman in Allen County and killing a man in South Bend was arrested this week in Fort Wayne on a parole violation, officials said Thursday.
David Molnar, 57, was arrested Wednesday night in the 2800 block of West Main Street. The arrest was the result of an investigation by the Fort Wayne Parole Field Team, New Haven Police and the Allen County Sheriff's Department.
Molnar allegedly stopped reporting to his supervising agent and moved to an unknown location this week, the Fort Wayne Parolee Office said.
Molnar was released to parole in January following a four-year sentence for being a prisoner in possession of a dangerous device, a Class C felony, imposed in Madison County in 2015. Molnar had been previously released to parole supervision on this sentence but was returned to the Department of Correction for a parole violation, authorities said.
Molnar was previously discharged from a 55-year sentence for murder and a 30-year sentence for rape.
He killed a customer during a robbery at a South Bend gas station Sept. 27, 1981. Seventeen days earlier, he raped a 25-year-old woman he abducted in her van during her lunch break at Calhoun Street and Rudisill Boulevard.
He forced the woman to drive off and raped her on a country road at knifepoint.
Molnar was arrested on the rape charge after the victim viewed him in a South Bend police lineup after his arrest in the murder case. The murder case was moved to Fort Wayne from South Bend.
Molnar also served a four-year sentence for escape in Allen County in 2002.
