Two separate shootings left one person dead and another injured Wednesday night.
Police were called about 6:45 p.m. on a report of gunshots in the 700 block of Eckart Street, according to a news release from the Fort Wayne Police Department. As they canvassed the area, a witness told police there was a man down in the center of Weisser Park at 800 Eckart Street. When they found the man, he was unconscious, and police started administering CPR.
Medics arrived soon after and found the man in critical condition suffering from gunshot wounds and pronounced the man dead.
Investigators have not been able to find witnesses to the shooting, the release said, or any information on what led to the shooting.
The identity of the homicide victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Allen County coroner’s office.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County prosecutor’s office and Allen County coroner’s office.
If the death is ruled a homicide, it would be the 44th in the county this year. The record of 45 homicides was set in 2013.
Another shooting was reported a little more than an hour later, at 8 p.m. at Rodeway Inn, 2920 Goshen Road, according to Officer Chris Felton, FWPD public information officer.
The victim, Spencir Klay Ballard, 21, from Fort Wayne, was listed in critical condition. No other details were released, and that shooting remains under investigation.
