I-69 work site scene of 2nd semi crash in a week

JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette

A FedEx driver was flown by helicopter to a hospital after his semi crashed into an Interstate 69 bridge support south of Fort Wayne that's under construction about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The crash occurred at the 292 mile marker, according to the Allen County Sheriff's Department. The FedEx semi with two trailers was northbound when it went off the east side of the highway, police said.

The driver was listed in serious condition. The northbound lanes were closed for more than four hours.

This is the same location where a similar crash occurred at 5 a.m. May 9. In that accident, a northbound semi also crossed the east side of the interstate and struck a bridge support under construction.

The driver of that crash was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
