Journal Gazette

Indiana State Police arrested a 41-year-old Columbia City man Tuesday night on a child molesting charge following a four-month investigation.

The investigation began in early February by Indiana State Police Detective Jake Quick after an allegation that Ty P. McElroy had sexually molested a 10-year-old girl between August 2010 and June 2011 in a Butler area residence.

Quick worked with the Indiana Department of Child Services and the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s Office. An arrest warrant for one felony count of child molesting was issued for McElroy’s arrest last week. His vehicle was spotted traveling on U.S. 6 on the west side of Butler Tuesday night, police said.

With the assistance of the Butler Police, Auburn Police and DeKalb County Sheriff Departments, the vehicle was stopped and McElroy was arrested without incident. He was being held in the DeKalb County Jail without bail.
