K9 finds missing camper

The Journal Gazette

A Columbia City K9 unit helped find a missing 12-year-old camper, Monday.

The camper, a child with Asperger's, had been missing for about 40 minutes from Camp Whitley, a statement from the Columbia City Police department said.

When camp counselors were unable to find the child, the Whitley County Sheriff's Department asked for the Columbia City K9 unit to help.

At 12:51 a.m., K9 Cas tracked the woods along the shoreline of Troy Cedar Lake and found the missing child in a small cabin behind a home just south of Camp Whitley.

The child was not hurt and was returned to the camp counselors.
