Man hospitalized after fleeing police, rolling vehicle

Journal Gazette

A man is in serious condition after crashing his vehicle following an attempted traffic stop Saturday night east of downtown.

According to Fort Wayne police, at 9:49 p.m., an officer noticed a vehicle speeding and driving recklessly in the area of Maumee and Glasgow avenues. After pulling over, the man then fled the scene, heading east on Maumee before losing control of the vehicle.

The vehicle left the road, rolling over several times near the intersection of Maumee and Edsall avenues before coming to a stop against a fence. The driver then fled on foot before collapsing in a nearby lot.

Paramedics transported the driver to the hospital in serious condition.

Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was recently stolen in Adams County, and that speed and alcohol played a role in the accident, according to a statement from the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The incident remains under investigation by the FWPD, Allen County prosecutor's office and Adams County Sheriff's Department.
