Journal Gazette

A semi driver from Bowling Green, Ohio, was killed early Wednesday after his rig struck the bridge that carries U.S. 24 over Paulding County Road 11, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

George J. Weiler, 55, died at the scene of the 4:55 a.m. crash just east of the Indiana state line, the highway patrol in Van Wert said.

Weiler was driving east on U.S. 24 when the semi traveled off the left side of the road, hit the bridge and fell onto County Road 11 below, catching fire, authorities said.

U.S. 24 was temporarily closed in both directions.

Indianapolis man I-69 victim

A driver involved in an early-morning fatal crash on Interstate 69 south of the General Motors plant at the 294 mile marker Saturday has been identified.

Jamar L. Mansfield, 24, of Indianapolis was found thrown from the vehicle and died shortly after arriving at a hospital, the Allen County coroner's office said.

After an autopsy, the coroner ruled that Mansfield died from blunt force trauma due to a motor vehicle crash and his manner of death was ruled an accident.

Mansfield is the 29th person to die in a fatal traffic crash in the county this year.
