Woman arrested in stabbing

Man found in apartment dies at hospital

JIM CHAPMAN | The Journal Gazette

A woman was arrested after an apparent stabbing death of a man early Wednesday on Fort Wayne's northeast side, police said.

Kathleen Gale Theroit, 49, faces preliminary charges of aggravated battery and domestic battery.

Police announced her arrest Wednesday afternoon after investigating the death of a man who was found in an apartment at 4917 Northcrest Drive, just north of Northcrest shopping center near Coldwater Road, Coliseum Boulevard and Clinton Street.

Police were called to the apartment about 3:30 a.m. because of a reported stabbing. They found a man with an apparent stab wound to the abdomen, said Officer Jason Anthony, Fort Wayne police spokesman.

The man was taken in critical condition to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Anthony said.

Investigators believe the man was inside the apartment when he was stabbed, Anthony said, and they interviewed potential witnesses who were inside the apartment building at the time.

The man is expected to be identified following an autopsy. The Allen County coroner has yet to determine the cause and manner of the man's death.

If his death is ruled a homicide, it would be Allen County's 25th homicide this year.

The county saw a record 49 homicides last year.

Theroit was being held without bail at the Allen County Jail.
