A man died today after shooting himself and crashing a vehicle into a home just northwest of Fort Wayne, police said.

Police were called around 3:45 p.m. to the 2400 block of Grand Canyon Corridor near Leesburg and Bass roads. They found a vehicle had crashed into a house the man inside the vehicle was dead.

Capt. Steve Stone, Allen County Sheriff's Department public information officer, said there was "no question" the man had shot himself.

A neighbor who witnessed the incident told The Journal Gazette the man exited his garage and then crashed his Chevy Blazer into his home before turning a gun on himself. The house had recently been put up for sale, she added.

On Wednesday, police were working to contact family members, Stone said.
