The death of a Noble County Jail inmate Wednesday is being investigated by Indiana State Police.
According to a news release, Markus Neal Middleton, 23, of Albion was found unconscious in his cell during routine cell checks about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Confinement officers entered the cell and performed life-saving measures until Noble County EMS could arrive. Medics attempted to revive Middleton, but he was declared dead at 9:01 p.m., according to the release.
Incarcerated since Sept. 11, Middleton was the only inmate in the cell and foul play is not suspected, the release said.
The Noble County Sheriff's Department and coroner's office are assisting in the investigation.
