Few clues in slaying of driver in van

Motive unknown; police hope for tips

MATTHEW LEBLANC | The Journal Gazette

Police still have little information about a shooting death Sunday.

“Hopefully, somebody saw something, heard something, and can call Crime Stoppers to give us some leads,” said Michael Joyner, a Fort Wayne Police Department spokesman.

Martell Dorel Milton, 25, was found about 6 p.m. slumped over in a van by a passer-by in the 5300 block of Winter Street, just north of Roosevelt Drive. He had been shot in the head, the Allen County coroner's office said Monday.

The killing is the county's 37th homicide this year.

The van was found along the curb and the passenger-side door was open, Joyner said. Responding officers found Milton in critical condition. He died after paramedics arrived.

Detectives canvassed the area. Joyner said police do not have a motive for the shooting.

Anyone with information should call police at 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 436-7867.

Allen County set a record in 2016 for homicides, with 49. Through the same period last year, the county had 44.
