A 19-year-old man is charged in the death of his child.
Julio Carrillo was charged Tuesday with neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.
Court documents say Carrillo was caring for a baby identified as A.C. on Monday when police were called about a baby not breathing. The child's mother had left around 9:20 a.m. and returned around 1 p.m. to find the child "not breathing right and not acting right," a probable cause affidavit says.
Carrillo allegedly told the woman the baby was fussy and he spanked the child. He did not want to call for help, court documents allege.
At Lutheran Hospital, doctors found "multiple brain bleeds and a depressed skull fracture," the affidavit states. Other findings included injuries to the child's buttocks and rectum, according to investigators.
Carrillo told police he tripped over a baby swing after spanking the child, causing him to fall and the baby to hit its head on the hardwood floor, the affidavit says.
The child died around 5 p.m. Monday, according to court documents.
Court documents do not list the location of the alleged crime.
