84-year-old dies in 2-car crash
One person died and another hurt in a two-vehicle crash in Huntington County on Sunday morning.
Amie Mounsey, 84, of Bluffton was driving southbound on County Road 200 East and approached the intersection at County Road 300 North. Mounsey stopped and then proceeded into the intersection in the path of a westbound vehicle driven by Phillip Beckstedt, 53, of Ossian, according to a news release.
Beckstedt was unable to stop or avoid hitting the car. Mounsey was found unresponsive in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Beckstedt was taken to Lutheran Hospital for complaints of chest pain.
The crash remains under investigation.
Cyclist hit from behind, killed
A bicyclist was killed in an apparent accidental crash Saturday evening in Huntington County.
Kelly Wiley, 55, of Huntington was cycling eastbound in a hilly area of Indiana 16 in the center of the lane when she was struck from behind, according to a news release. Hilary Hickart, 24, of Roann, was driving an SUV and said she did not see the bicyclist as she was cresting a rise in the road.
Wiley was thrown from the bicycle, and Hickart immediately called 911 before administering CPR until help arrived. The crash remains under investigation.
