Bowser shootings leave 1 dead, 1 stable

JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette

One man died and another was seriously injured after they were shot in the 3900 block of Bowser Avenue about 9 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

One of the men, who was in stable condition after being shot in the leg, arrived at Fire Station No. 11 at Lafayette Street and East Rudisill Boulevard seeking medical attention. Witnesses said he drove himself, though Officer Jason Anthony, Fort Wayne police spokesman, could not confirm that.

Anthony said the shootings appeared to be linked.

The man who died was found by police lying in the middle of the street and taken to the hospital, Anthony said.

Two other men reportedly ran off behind homes after the shooting. Officers attempted to track the two suspects with a police dog, but it was too difficult because the streets had become full of people, he added.

Neither victim was identified. The Allen County coroner will identify the man who died following an autopsy possibly as early as today.
