Gunfire killed one man and seriously injured another Sunday evening in what witnesses told police was a drive-by shooting just south of downtown.
Authorities also were trying to determine whether the incident injured two others, Fort Wayne police spokesman Mark Bieker said.
Police arrived at the 200 block of East Masterson Avenue about 7:30 p.m. on reports of one person shot but arrived to find two men lying on a lawn between houses, Bieker said.
The men both suffered from gunshot wounds and were hospitalized in critical and serious condition, Bieker said. The man in critical condition later died.
If the death is ruled a homicide, it will be the 25th homicide in Allen County this year.
Crime scene tape enveloped two homes and the yard of a third along Masterson Avenue immediately east of Clinton Street. Yellow tape also stretched into an alley behind the houses.
Soon after arriving on scene, police learned of two walk-in hospital patients with noncritical injuries, Bieker said. It was unclear Sunday whether they were related to the shooting, he said.
Police are seeking camera footage to get details on the suspect's car, Bieker said, noting conflicting descriptions from witnesses.
