Correction

A previous online version of this story incorrectly identified Kiara Danielle Murphy as a student at Purdue Fort Wayne. A university spokeswoman said Murphy began but did not complete the application process, and was never a student.

A 22-year-old woman from the Chicago area is Allen County's latest homicide victim.

The Allen County coroner identified the victim as Kiara Danielle Murphy. She was found with a gunshot wound in a Waynedale home early Tuesday and died at a hospital.

Police arrived at Murphy's home in the 6500 block of Old Trail Road about 4:50 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a shooting. Murphy was inside the one-story home.

The coroner's report Wednesday said Murphy was shot in the abdomen. She was taken in serious condition to a hospital where she died.

Murphy's death is the 29th homicide in Allen County this year. This time last year, Allen County had 18 homicides with a toll of 41 by the end of the year.

Detectives are asking that anyone who may have information about the case call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 260-427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867.
