3-county chase in stolen car winds up in Michigan pond
JAMIE DUFFY | The Journal Gazette
Police say three men were intoxicated as they went through a Wendy's drive-thru at the Pilot truck stop on Old North 27 in Steuben County.
From there, they led police through Steuben and into LaGrange County before they drove a 2003 Pontiac into Michigan, eventually ending the pursuit when they drove into a retention pond at a wastewater treatment plant in Sturgis, Michigan.
None of the three was injured, according to a news release from the Steuben County Sheriff's Office.
It was unclear if charges were filed against the three men because the investigation was turned over to the Sturgis Police Department, the release said.
Travis Fitch, 27, of Fremont and James Scott, 41, of Kendallville were in the car with Brandon Shockley, 30, of Muncie.
The Pontiac was reported stolen from Hillsdale, Michigan.
Unidentified controlled substances were found in the vehicle, the release said.
The case remains under investigation.
