A Virginia man died in a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning on the Indiana Toll Road in Steuben County.
According to preliminary reports, 44-year-old Shawn Alston of Chesterfield, Virginia, was driving a box truck westbound near Fremont about 11:40 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, he drove through the center median and into the eastbound lanes of traffic, an Indiana State Police release said.
Alston's truck was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by Derwin Patton, 54, of LaGrange, before another tractor-trailer driven by Sardor Hidirov, 31, of Pittsburgh collided with Patton's semi.
Alston was pronounced dead at the scene by the Steuben County coroner, according to the state police release.
Patton was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne for non-life-threatening injuries.
Hidirov was not injured, and both he and Patton were wearing seat belts at the time.
It is unclear if Alston was wearing his.
The crash remains under investigation pending autopsy and toxicology reports.
