U.S. Marshals in Starkville, Mississippi, arrested James Dodson Jr., who is charged with murder in the April 9 shooting death of Fort Wayne barber Michael E. LoVett Jr.
Dodson, 34, was arrested Thursday and is charged with murder in LoVett's death. Court documents say a second man was involved, but he is still at large and has not been identified by police.
Dodson was identified as a customer who left The Legendary Barbershop, LoVett's business at 1718 Lake Ave., around 5:30 p.m. April 9, returning a few minutes after 6 p.m.
On surveillance video captured at the BP gas station across the street from the shop, Dodson can be seen backing his gold Lexus SUV into a parking spot at the gas station and crossing the street. At the same time, two men approach on foot from the west on Lake Avenue.
The unidentified shooter charged at LoVett, who was outside his shop, according to a probable cause affidavit.
More than 20 shell casings were found at the scene after LoVett was shot to death.
Marshals went to an apartment in Starkville after they received information that Dodson was there, according to a news release from the Fort Wayne Police Department. He was being held there awaiting extradition to Fort Wayne.
