Journal Gazette

A New Haven man escaped serious injury after he lost control of his car and slid under a moving semi trailer Sunday afternoon.

Ryan R. Lawson, 40, was driving a 1989 Ford Mustang north on Interstate 69 near the Markle exit at 12:10 p.m. when he lost control of the car, according to an Indiana State Police news release.

Ivan Stovbun, 59, of Montreal, Canada, was driving a 2017 Volvo semi-tractor trailer combination, and did not realize at first that the crash had happened. He traveled a half-mile with the Mustang lodged under the trailer before stopping in the driving lane.

Lawson was able to get himself out of the Mustang and refused medical treatment. Stovbun was not injured. The crash was attributed to mechanical failure, according to the release. Traffic on I-69 was stopped for 30 minutes until a passing lane was opened.
