The man found unresponsive in the backyard of a Fort Wayne home over the weekend is Allen County’s 25th homicide victim.

According to a release from the Allen County coroner’s office, 22-year-old Samuel L. Hardrix died from "sharp force injuries." Medics pronounced him dead at the scene in the 1400 block of Schilling Avenue.

The homeowner called police just before 9 a.m. Sunday, reporting a unresponsive male victim lying in her backyard.

According to court records, Hardrix was identified as homeless in both May and June when he was charged with misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief.

In the May case, he was given a year in jail after pleading guilty, but that time was suspended. He was also ordered to pay more than $3,000 in restitution and court costs. He was due back in court next month for a collection hearing.

Hardrix’s killing remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County prosecutor’s office and the Allen County coroner’s office.
