Fatal shooting on Warsaw St.

Dave Gong | The Journal Gazette

A man is dead following a shooting on Fort Wayne’s southeast-side late Monday afternoon.

About 4:50 p.m. Fort Wayne police responded to multiple calls reporting numerous gunshots at a residence in the 4400 block of Warsaw Street, said Fort Wayne police spokesman Jason Anthony.

At the scene, officers found a man lying in the driveway of the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

The victim was transported in critical condition to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. If ruled a homicide, the man’s death would be the 36th in Allen County this year.

It remains unclear whether there were any other people inside the residence at the time of the shooting, Anthony said. It’s also unknown how many shots were fired.

Numerous shell casings were found at the scene, both in the street and in a nearby alley. Early Monday evening, investigators were still canvassing the area and interviewing witnesses, Anthony said.

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fort Wayne police at 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 436-7867.
