Inmate of DeKalb jail dies at hospital

A 48-year-old Auburn man facing child molesting charges died in the DeKalb County Jail on Saturday morning.
Charles W. Croft suffered an apparent heart attack at 8:30 a.m., according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department. Jail staff immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the sheriff said in a statement.
Medics took Croft to Parkview Regional Hospital where he died at 9:52 a.m., according to the statement.
Croft had been at the jail since May 7 and was scheduled to go on trial March 29. He faced two counts of child molesting.
An investigation is ongoing and an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death is scheduled for today.
