A 33-year-old man has been identified as the victim of a shooting at a northwest-side inn on Tuesday, the Allen County coroner's office said today.

Eric Antione Hearn died from a gunshot wound or wounds, and his death is the first homicide of 2017 in the county, the coroner's office said in a statement.

The coroner's office did not provide Hearn's address, but inn owners Reshma and Kamlesh Patel have said he lived in the 1700 block of Edsall Drive in Fort Wayne.

Fort Wayne police have said they were called at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday to Country Hearth Inn and Suites, 2908 Goshen Road, and found an unresponsive man. Medics and firefighters determined he had died.

The slaying remains under investigation by city police, the coroner's office and the county prosecutor's office.
