Victim of Oliver Street shooting identified

A 34-year-old Fort Wayne man has been identified as the victim of a shooting on Oliver Street late Monday, the Allen County coroner's office said today.

Karon A. Elders died from a gunshot wound or wounds, and his death is the 10th homicide of the year in Fort Wayne and Allen County during 2015, the coroner's office said in a statement following an autopsy.

At approximately 11:05 p.m. Monday, Fort Wayne police responded to a reported shooting and a man lying in the middle of the 3500 block of Oliver Street. 

The victim appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was unresponsive. First aid was performed by officers until paramedics arrived to take him to a local hospital in critical condition. Once at the hospital, the victim was pronounced dead.

No arrest has been made in the case.

The shooting remains under investigation by city police, the coroner's office and the county prosecutor's office.
