Former Elmhurst High School brings $600,000 offer

The Fort Wayne Community Schools board tonight unanimously approved selling the former Elmhurst High School site for $600,000.

Information about the buyer, Hanson Aggregates Midwest LLC, and its intentions with the property were not available.

Superintendent Wendy Robinson said more information will be released after closing, explaining it is "always risky" to make details public before the sale is finalized.

Elmhurst has been vacant since it closed at the end of the 2009-10 academic year due to consolidation and building-site conditions.

Board President Julie Hollingsworth described the action as bittersweet. Of her 32-year education career, she spent 26 years at Elmhurst, she said.

"It was a good school," she said.
