The first day of school will come earlier for Southwest Allen County Schools students beginning in 2020.
In a narrow vote – and against input from nearly 2,500 staff, students, parents and community members – school board members on Tuesday approved a 2020-21 district calendar that begins Aug. 5 in exchange for a weeklong fall break in October.
"On behalf of Southwest Allen County Schools' school board and administration, we would like to extend our appreciation to those who participated in our recent request for input regarding the 2020-2021 school year calendar," the district said in an online statement.
The vote was 3-2.
Survey results showed 56 percent of people favored the traditional calendar.
