IU football program:  Recently discovered June 1914 letter reveals then-head coach C.C. Childs declined IU president's suggestion he hire a young Notre Dame assistant coach named Knute Rockne for the upcoming season. Childs left two years later after only six victories. Later, Rockne became a Notre Dame legend, winning 105 games and three national championships in 13 years as head coach.
