CHEERS to everyone who helped the Allen County SPCA on March 10 when our animal transport vehicle was involved in an accident. The impact caused the locked cages and van doors to spring open, allowing several dogs to escape into heavy afternoon traffic.

Cheers to the passersby who stopped to help and to Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control officers who responded to the scene as well. Cheers to our volunteers who combed the Vesey Park neighborhood searching for the last stray dog, Otto. Ultimately, he was safely apprehended by FWACC director Amy-Jo Sites. Cheers to her, too! Because of everyone’s swift and compassionate response, none of the animals were injured and all are available for adoption!

It was sponsored by Fort Wayne Ski Club, Legacy Heating and Air Conditioning, Rogers Electric, Sunny 103.9, Lima Road Dentistry, Haller & Colvin Attorneys at Law, Fort Wayne TinCaps, 96.3 WXKE and the Ski Pole. CHEERS to all of our sponsors for the seventh annual Ombudsman Pajama Drive. That includes Oak Street Health, IPFW Human Service Department, GLO Magazine, Chick-fil-A at Jefferson Pointe and the Council on Senior Services. This has been our largest drive to date. We will be able to serve many people living in our area nursing homes with a warm gift and a visit of encouragement.

CHEERS to those who supported the Jesters of the University of Saint Francis in their annual spring performance March 11 and 12 at the university’s North Campus Auditorium. That includes the AWS Foundation, Arts United, National Endowment for the Arts, Indiana Arts Commission, Allison Ballard, director of the Jesters, and most of all, Rick Cartwright, dean of the School of Creative Arts.

To bring a cast of more than 80 Jesters (people of special needs) together showcasing a variety of talents was a monumental task that resulted in a fabulous and heartwarming experience for all in attendance.
