Readers will see a new Weekender beginning Friday

In an effort to reduce the number of jumps for stories and listings, we have changed our Weekender from a tabloid to a broadsheet. The new size allows listings to appear all on one page and provides additional room for features, such as puzzles and comics. Nothing has changed as far as the content. The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo  hosted a birthday party for Norbert, a giant tortoise, on Wednesday. Even though he is the zoo's oldest animal, at 46, he's barely middle-aged for a tortoise. Do gorillas go through menopause? Do hippos get Alzheimer’s disease? Do animals in zoos live longer than those in the wild? As we learn more about animals in captivity, they are living longer. As they do, zoos need to learn more about how to care for older animals. Zoos across the nation, including the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, are doing just that. ...
