IPFW given 2-year probation by NCAA

The Journal Gazette

IPFW was given two years' probation by the NCAA after failing to monitor aspects of its financial program, the association announced Tuesday.

"The school provided financial aid that exceeded the value of a full scholarship to student-athletes, improperly documented nonathletic aid, did not notify student-athletes of changes in financial aid and impermissibly changed financial aid," the NCAA said in a statement.

The institution reported itself to the NCAA in March 2013 after discovering the violations in January of the same year, with the investigation following. The discrepancies were discovered six months after the director of compliance assumed the position.

IPFW awarded impermissible awards totaling $42,224 in three academic years, according to the release.
