Jimmy Rayl, Mr. Basketball winner and IU star, dies at 77

Jimmy Rayl, the 1959 Indiana Mr. Basketball at Kokomo and a two-time All-American at Indiana, died Sunday of an unspecified illness. He was 77.
Rayl played for the Hoosiers from 1960-63 and averaged 20.6 points per game in his career, including 29.8 points in 1961-62. He ranks 23rd in scoring all-time at Indiana and still holds the school record for most points in a game with 56, a mark he reached twice. He never played in the NBA, but was an original member of the Pacers, playing two seasons with the team when it was in the ABA.
