Cougars' winning streak hits 13


The Saint Francis men's basketball team won its 13th game in a row by beating Aquinas 70-65 on Saturday at the Sturrus Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. 

The streak is the third-longest in school history, coming after the 20 straight wins in 1999-2000 and 16 straight in 2015-16. Saint Francis has won its last five games on the road.

The Cougars (14-2), ranked No. 2 in NAIA Division II, got 22 points, 14 in the second half, from Derek Hinen and 14 from Bryce Lienhoop, who has moved up to No. 11 on the school's career scoring list with 1,562 points.

Saint Francis trailed Aquinas (8-9) 40-39 at halftime.

SAGINAW VALLEY 71, INDIANA TECH 65: In Saginaw, Michigan, the NAIA Division II No. 6 Warriors fell to the NCAA Division II Cardinals. 

Indiana Tech (14-3) had its six-game winning streak snapped against Saginaw Valley (4-9). 

Darren Groves led the Warriors with 20 points. 

MANCHESTER 86, OZARKS 72: In Atlanta, the Spartans took down their opponents from Arkansas in the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Tournament. 

Brody Kirby scored 21 points to lead Manchester (2-9).

SAINT XAVIER 94, HUNTINGTON 76: In Chicago, Tyler Arens scored 33 points in the Foresters' loss.

Huntington fell to 6-10. 


SAINT FRANCIS 67, MADONNA 52: At the Hutzell Center, Kara Gerka's 19 points paced the Cougars.

Saint Francis (10-6) also got 14 points from Sidney Crowe and 10 points from Emma Applewhite.

WESTERN ILLINOIS 100, IPFW 64: At the Gates Center, the Mastodons opened conference play by losing to the defending Summit League champions.

IPFW (3-11, 0-1) got 14 points and eight rebounds from Jaelencia Williams and 11 points from Anna Lappenküper.

BELOIT 69, MANCHESTER 64, OT: In Beloit, Wisconsin, Mikalia Taylor's 16 points weren't enough as the Spartans (2-9) fell to the Buccaneers.
