IPFW scores upset on volleyball court
The IPFW men's volleyball team defeated No. 3 California Irvine 3-2 (25-18, 18-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-9) at Crawford Court on Wednesday, thanks to double-digit kills from four Mastodons.
The Mastodons beat a top-five team for the first time since beating Pepperdine in the 2007 NCAA Tournament semifinal.
For IPFW, Colton Stone had 17 kills, Pelegrin Vargas 16, Tony Price 13 and Tomas Gago 11. Price led in digs with nine, followed by Stone and Kolbie Knorr, who both had eight. Richie Diedrich had five blocks. IPFW (14-4)had seven more aces than did the Anteaters (11-5), totaling eight, three of which came from Stone.
IPFW is on a five-match winning streak.
The Mastodons' California swing continues at 10 tonight with a match against California Santa Barbara and 10 p.m. match Saturday against Concordia Irvine.
