Carroll girls cross country win New Haven Classic


The Carroll girls cross country team continued its dominance with a first-place team finish in the big school division at the New Haven Classic at the Plex North on Saturday, beating Bloomington South 58-84. Bishop Dwenger was third with 123.

Freshman Zoe Duffus (18 minutes, 13.33 seconds) outran the defending state champion Tyler Schwartz of DeKalb (18:17.29). Mallory Clements (13th overall, 19:40.64), Leah Metzger (14th, 19:44.45), Maggie Falater (15th, 19:44.65) and Rayna Fruchey (23rd, 20:24.34) rounded out scoring for the Chargers.

Norwell's Sydney Lambert won the medium school race in 19:29.39 as Yorktown won the girls medium team title 98-111 over Bishop Luers. Oak Hill won the small school title 59-69 over Bremen.

Angola's Josiah Mortorff won the boys medium school race in 16:53.09 and Carroll's Connor Goetz finished third in the big school race in 15:53.02.

CULVER INVITATIONAL: South Adams girls finished second to West Lafayette 64-142, paced by Eliza Harruff (21:05) in the closed race.

Concordia's Callie Hoover finished fifth in the girls open race in 20:17.4 as the Cadets finished second 47-48 to LaPorte.

Wawasee's Spencer Hare finished third in the boys open race in 16:49.5 as the Warriors finished third with 135 behind Plainfield East (IL) and Elkhart Central.

Concordia's Reece Gibson finished third in the boys elite race in 16:04.1.

Boys soccer

NORTH SIDE 4, BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 1: Pedro Lopez had a hat trick for the Legends and Saleh Ali added another. Jacob Berry scored for the Braves.

CONCORDIA 5, NORTHWOOD 0: Adam Gottschalk scored twice and Joey Rucinski, Tumi Malatse and Luke Neuhause each recorded a goal for the Cadets.

HOMESTEAD 3, GOSHEN 2: Hunter Hubler, Connor Williams and Rocco Zirille each scored for the Spartans.

CONCORD 4, HOMESTEAD 1: Marco Navarro scored the lone goal for Homestead in the loss.

Girls soccer

CARROLL 1, GOSHEN 0: At Carroll, Bailee Long scored the lone goal for the Chargers and Olivia Sloffer made three saves to secure the shutout.

CARROLL 4, CONCORD 0: At Carroll, Mia Schlueter, Long, Aubrey Vince and Mia Bodenstein each scored for the Chargers.
