Lions, Spartans tennis advance
Leo and Homestead advanced to the Carroll regional tennis finals, each sweeping their opponent 5-0.
The Lions beat Adams Central helped by a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles by Eli Herran over Jaxson Rinkenberger. Josh Jakacki and Sam McDaniel won at No. 1 doubles over Kyle Arnold and Lucas Harvey 6-1, 6-1.
David Heiney led the Spartans over Bishop Dwenger with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles over Andrew Nuerge. Bryant Zitlaw and Will Milne defeated Drake LaPan and Adam Yaggy 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.
In the individual tournament, Huntington North's Auden Eckert defeated South Adams' David Muselman 7-5, 6-2 and Bluffton's Gabe Eisenhut and Mason Heller won 6-1, 6-1 over Wayne's Noah Hunley and Samuel Laird.
BELLMONT SECTIONAL: New Haven defeated Norwell 2-0 with two second-half goals from Jose Rizo. The host Braves defeated Leo 2-1 with goals from Parker Busick and Andrew Morris.
CARROLL SECTIONAL: The hosts advanced with an 8-7 win via penalty kicks over Northrop.
LAKELAND SECTIONAL: DeKalb won its tournament opener 7-0 against West Noble. Faith Lewis had a hat trick and Rebekah Forti and Grace Snyder each scored twice for the Barons.
ACAC TOURNAMENT: South Adams defeated Southern Wells 2-0 (25-11, 25-19) led by Julia Grabau's 22 assists and Madi Wurster's 14 kills.
Adams Central won 2-0 (25-18, 25-20) over Woodlan. Sami Oliver had nine kills, Alyss Fennig had 18 digs and Maddy DeRoo had 12 assists for the Flying Jets.
Jay County won over Bluffton 2-0 (25-9, 25-12). The Tigers were led by Hunter Morrison's three kills.
