DeKalb's Brown nets 53 in win


DeKalb senior Leigha Brown scored 53 points in the Barons' 73-61 home win over Lakeland on Friday.

Brown, a Nebraska commit, shot 16 of 28 from the field, 2 of 3 on 3-pointers, and 19 of 21 from the free-throw line and also added 24 rebounds, four assists and five steals. 

Teammate sophomore Addison Ruby added 14 on 6 of 13 shooting as DeKalb improves to 2-0. 

NORTH SIDE 46, WHITKO 42: At North Side, Ja'Shanek Brooks led the Legends with 18 points, Chanel Tyra added 11 and Nya Coleman had 10 as the program won its season-opener for the first time since 2006.

CANTERBURY 54, WAYNE 21: At Canterbury, the Cavaliers outscored the Generals 31-5 in the second half. Alaina Rongos led Canterbury with 19 points in their season-opener and Sydney Hearn added 10. Mya Jackson scored 12 for the Generals (0-1). 

LEO 50, HERITAGE 21: At Leo, Sophia Pierce led the Lions with 19 points in their season-opener and Brooke Smith had a team-high eight rebounds and four blocks. 

Karlee Fackler scored 10 for the Patriots (0-2). 

EASTSIDE 54, FREMONT 35: At Eastside, Lindsey Beard led the Blazers (1-0) with 13 points and Raegan Johnson and Olivia Yoder each added nine. Samantha Kuhn led the Eagles (0-1) with nine points.
