Brooks paces Legends past Blackhawk boys


North Side, the second-ranked team in Class 4A, rolled past 1A No. 4 Blackhawk Christian 67-41 in boys basketball Tuesday.

North Side (2-0) got 21 points from Keion Brooks, 14 points from Austin Boucher and 10 points from Brandan Johnson. 

Caleb Furst led Blackhawk Christian (1-1) with 16 points.

MISSISSINEWA 50, NORWELL 45: The Knights fell at home in a nonconference game. Norwell (2-1) got 18 points from Brandon Nicholson and 16 from Will Geiger.

Girls basketball

HOMESTEAD 63, JAY COUNTY 49: Sydney Graber scored 28 points for the host Spartans (5-1), and Sylare Starks added 17 points. 

BISHOP LUERS 62, HUNTINGTON NORTH 51: Kathryn Knapke had 20 points to lead the visiting Knights (5-2). 

Hollyn Anderson had 14 points for the Vikings (3-4).

CONCORDIA 44, LEO 21: Carissa Garcia scored 16 points, almost outscoring the host Lions by herself, for the Cadets.

Chanteese Craig added 12 points for Concordia (5-3), while Sophia Pierce led Leo (2-4) with nine points.

CARROLL 73, DEKALB 16: The host Chargers rolled past the Barons in a nonconference game.

Laney Steckler led Carroll (5-2) with 17 points, while Alyssa Kimes added 16. DeKalb (4-4) played without injured star Leigha Brown.

FAIRFIELD 67, ANGOLA 47: The visiting Falcons held the Hornets to 27 percent shooting in the NECC win. 

It was the first league loss for Angola (8-2, 3-1). Fairfield improved to 8-1 and 2-0.

WEST NOBLE 52, WAWASEE 37: The visiting Chargers improved to 6-1 in beating the Warriors. West Noble was led by Tori Miller's 15 points, while Wawasee (4-3) got 10 points from Hannah-Marie Lamie.
