Bishop Luers girls stun Homestead


The Homestead girls basketball team's 47-game winning streak against SAC opponents was broken with a 47-43 loss to Bishop Luers in the Parkview Sports Medicine SAC Holiday Tournament at Wayne on Thursday.

The Bishop Luers defense limited the Spartans to just three points in the second quarter to get within 21-20 at halftime after being down 18-9 after the first.

In the fourth quarter, the Knights converted 7 of 12 free-throw attempts and outscored the Spartans 17-7.

Kathryn Knapke scored 24 points and Lydia Reimbold added 11 to lead Bishop Luers. Sylare Starks scored 18 for the Spartans, all in the first and third quarters while Sydney Graber added 10.

Bishop Luers will face Carroll in today's semifinal.


Alicia Tiney-Williams had 15 points, Niomi Dube added 13 and Morgan Hughes scored 11 for the Bruins. Northrop will face South Side in today's semifinals.

Da'Leshia Davis had 21 points and Hannah Barnes and Payton Gorman each had 12 for the Panthers.


SOUTH SIDE 67, SNIDER 64: Mikale Stevenson led the Archers with 31 points on 9 of 16 shooting from the floor, including 6 of 9 from 3, and Cortney Shorter added 11 points.

Michael Eley led the Panthers with 19, Keondre Brown added 16 and Dillon Duff 12.

NORTH SIDE 75, CONCORDIA 40: Lucas Kroft led the tournament's defending champion Legends with 32 points, 18 of which came in the first half. Keion Brooks Jr. added 14 for North Side as the Legends outscored the Cadets 24-9 in the fourth quarter.

Jadon Dance scored nine to lead Concordia.
