Coaches name top girls basketball players
The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association released the girls basketball all-state honors Wednesday.
DeKalb's Leigha Brown was named to the state's senior Supreme 15 while Central Noble's Sydney Freeman and Concordia's Carissa Garcia were named to the underclassman Supreme 15.
South Side's Taniece Chapman, Carroll's Kelli Damman, Bishop Dwenger's Ellen Ross and Norwell's Logan Rowles were named to the senior Large School All-State team and Homestead's Sydney Graber and Sylare Starks were named to the underclassman team. Central Noble's Meleah Leatherman was named underclassman Small School All-State.
Earning honorable mention accolades for seniors were Snider's Hannah Barnes, South Adams' Lexi Dellinger and Madi Wurster, Northrop's Breanna Douglas, Arielle Thatcher and Niomi Dube, South Side's Mikeba Jones and Shamari Tyson, Huntington North's Rileigh Johnson, Bishop Luers' Kathryn Knapke and Bishop Dwenger's Olivia Sterba.
Underclassmen earning honorable mention were Bellmont's Grace Hunter, Bishop Luers' Lydia Reimbold, Huntington North's Madalyn Robrock, Canterbury's Alaina Rongos, West Noble's Madison Schermerhorn and Homestead's Haley Swing.
SOUTH SIDE 75, MUNCIE CENTRAL 73: Four Archers (13-10) scored in double figures at Huntington North, including Cortney Shorter, who led his team with 19.
CARROLL 68, NORTHROP 43: David Ejah scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds at East Noble to lead Carroll (19-3). Isaac Anderson scored 16 for Northrop (6-16).
HOMESTEAD 60, COLUMBIA CITY 41: Guard Onye Ezeakudo scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds at Huntington North to propel the Spartans (16-7) to a fourth straight win. Mitchell Wilson had 27 points for the Eagles (10-14).
