Central Noble wins in 2 OT, to play Westview for title

The girls just celebrated their state championship and now the boys are off to a rip-roaring start. The Central Noble boys basketball team won its second-round Class 2A sectional game, 58-53, in double overtime over Bremen at Topeka on Friday night.

Sawyer Yoder led the Cougars (13-10) with 18 points, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range and 7 of 9 from the free-throw line.

Teammates Ridley Zolman and Zach Brazel had 15 points apiece, and Zolman had 13 rebounds. And Trey Phillips added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Cougars will play in the title game tonight against host Westview, which beat LaVille 50-39.

MARION 75, NORWELL 52: In Ossian, Jalen Blackmon had 20 points in Class 3A for the Giants, who opened the game with a 20-12 run and led 40-24 at halftime. Marion was aided by 14-of-15 shooting from the free-throw line.

Norwell's Will Geiger had 24 points and Brandon Nicholson had 20 for the Knights (13-11).

MISSISSINEWA 52, BISHOP LUERS 34: At Ossian, Thabit Gault led Mississinewa with 16 points. His team was up 8-5 before a 20-9 second-quarter run. Luers' Mark Sturm had 10 points.

LAKELAND 54, WEST NOBLE 46: In Nappanee, Braden Bontrager led the Lakers (16-9) with 18 points in Class 3A. The Chargers (11-12) got 13 points from Trevor Franklin and 12 from Mason Stover. Lakeland opened the game with a 23-10 run.

BLUFFTON 32, SOUTH ADAMS 31: In Berne, Johnathan Irwin's 11 points led the Braves (10-14) to a Class 2A victory. Five players scored for Bluffton, including Evan Baumgartner with five points, but only three scored for Starfires (5-18), led by Lars In't Groen with 14 points.

CANTERBURY 75, CHURUBUSCO 59: In Berne, Cam Kreiger's 26 points led the Cavaliers, who were up 33-24 before a 20-15 third-quarter run. Noah Drapala added 16 for Canterbury (10-13).

The Eagles finish the season at 12-12.

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 102, LAKELAND CHRISTIAN 37: At Hamilton, Jalan Mull had 22 points and Frank Davidson 20 to lead the Braves in Class A. Blackhawk (23-2) led 38-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Cougars finish 13-12.
