Chargers' runners impress in Marion
Carroll's cross country team had another strong Saturday showing. At the Marion Invitational in the elite division, the girls placed first with 49 total points, while the boys placed third with 121 total points – just two points shy of second place.
Cole Powers was the runner up and Cory Waldron finished eighth for the Chargers. The girls were led by Abby Green and Meagan Hathaway, who finished third and fourth respectively, and Rayna Fruchey came in tenth.
Homestead's girls finished fifth, followed by Dwenger in sixth and Norwell in eighth. Dwenger's Erin Strzelecki was the runner-up,
Homestead's Julia Dvorak was seventh and Norwell's Sydney Lambert was ninth. West Noble boys finished fifth and Snider came in sixth. Snider's Jesse Hamlin finished fifth as an individual and West Noble's Colten Cripe finished tenth.
BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 1, LUERS 0: At Carroll, Ethan McKown scored in the 53rd minute for the Braves.
CARROLL 0, HOMESTEAD 0: In the 13th annual Carroll Classic, the Chargers and Spartans were co-champions thanks to the scoreless draw in the championship game. Carroll goalie Brohde Eckert and Homestead's Carson Stewart each made five saves.
HOMESTEAD 3, CATHEDRAL 2: At the Carroll Invitational, Homestead's David Heiney lost to Abe Wojtalik 6-0, 4-6, 8-10 in No. 1 singles. In No. 2 singles, Homestead's Daniel Gilbert loss to Ethan Eckhart 3-6, 6-4, 5-10. In No. 3 singles, Andrew Meier defeated Levi Wojtalik 6-1, 6-2.
In No.1 doubles, Homestead's Bryant Zitlaw and Tim Steiner defeated Andrew Davey and Alex Pohl 6-2, 6-1.
In No. 2 doubles, Thaddeus Dressel and Landon Sather defeated Kyle Kluger and Isaac Michael 6-1, 6-1.
