Garrett Thompson had a hat trick and an assist in leading the Komets to a 5-2 comeback victory over the Toledo Walleye in front of 7,542 Huntington Center fans in Toledo on Wednesday.

Toledo came into the morning game with a 7-0-0 record at home.

Thompson, who has five goals and seven points in the last two games, helped the Komets finish the game with four unanswered goals in the third period as they improved their season record against the Walleye to 4-1-0.

Last season, the Komets were 1-3-2 against Toledo in the regular season and lost to the Walleye in the second round of the playoffs.

The Komets (11-6-2), who have won six of their last seven games, host Quad City on Saturday.

Toledo (14-5-2) has an 8-3-1 record over its last 12 games and three of its four losses came to Fort Wayne.

Michael Houser stopped 29 of 31 shots for the Komets. Matej Machovsky stopped 23 of 27 for the Walleye.

Fort Wayne's Louick Marcotte tied the game at 2 at 12:39 of the third period and Thompson netted the winner at 13:39. Insurance goals came from Curtis Leonard – his first goal of the season – and Thompson, who found an empty net at 19:12.

Shawn Szydlowski had two assists to bring his total in his seven-game point-scoring streak to five goals and 13 points. He has a point in every road game this season.

Notes: Back in the Fort Wayne lineup were Artur Tyanulin, who had been with Tucson of the higher-level American Hockey League; Jamie Schaafsma, who had been ill; and Gabriel Desjardins, who had been out with a groin injury. They were all scoreless. ... Jason Binkley was out with an undisclosed injury.
