Ants get right against league's worst team
Facing the team with the G League's worst record was just what the Mad Ants needed to finally get a victory at the G League Showcase, an annual event in which all the league's teams play in front of NBA scouts.
Trey McKinney Jones had 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists – off the bench – and the Mad Ants beat the Salt Lake City Stars 113-93 Saturday afternoon at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
The Mad Ants (15-11) had lost their previous five games at the Showcase, including a last-second 110-108 loss to the Oklahoma City Blue on Thursday, and hadn't won in it since 2015.
After the Thursday loss, center Ike Anigbogu was called back to the Indiana Pacers.
The Mad Ants handled things well in the paint, where they outscored the Stars 62-34, including 14 points and seven rebounds from rookie Ben Moore, who signed a two-way contract with the Pacers on Friday.
Walt Lemon Jr. had 18 points and seven assists Saturday. Rookie Tra-Deon Hollins continued his recent solid play with a game-high 10 assists.
Erik McCree led the Stars (4-24) with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
