COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. – It's a Labor Day winner-moves-on situation for the TinCaps and West Michigan, after the Whitecaps won the penultimate game of the regular season 2-1 on Sunday at Fifth Third Ballpark.

The winner of today's 2 p.m. game will move on to the best-of-3 playoff series against the Great Lakes Loons.

West Michigan's Billy Lescher struck out two batters, including Kelvin Melean with the bases loaded to end the game, and cinched the come-from-behind victory in front of 7,252 fans.

Fort Wayne opened the scoring in the third inning, when Melean scored during an out. He was hit by a pitch to reach base and advanced to third on an error.

West Michigan answered in the bottom of the third when John Valente hit an RBI single to bring in Eric De La Rosa. And the Whitecaps took the lead for good in the fifth when Brady Policelli hit an RBI single to bring home Reynaldo Rivera.

Elvin Rodriguez (8-7) went five innings, allowing one run and three hits to get the victory. He also struck out four and walked one.

Gabe Mosser (1-1) went five innings for the TinCaps. He gave up one run and three hits. He also struck out five and walked one.

The TinCaps, who got a 2-for-4 night from Jeisson Rosario, will pin their pitching hopes today to Tom Cosgrove, who is 3-6 with a 3.87 ERA, 115 strikeouts and 33 walks in 1091/3 innings this year.
