TinCaps get strong relief pitching
Jawuan Harris had two hits, the TinCaps' bullpen pitched 42/3 scoreless innings and Fort Wayne won for just the second time in 10 games to snap a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory Monday over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, Wisconsin.
The TinCaps (13-17) jumped in front with two runs in the top of the first, when Grant Little and Justin Lopez ripped back-to-back singles. Little was able to score when Lopez's hit got past center fielder Korry Howel, allowing Lopez to reach third. Dwanya Williams-Sutton brought him in with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
Xavier Edwards singled home a run in the third. He came into the game batting .368, tops in the Midwest League.
He went 1 for 5.
Fort Wayne starter Ramon Perez went 41/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits while striking out four and walking two.
Left-hander relievers Dan Dallas (1-2) and Cody Tyler combined to strike out three and give up just two hits in the late innings. Tyler pitched two shutout innings to earn the save after being added to the roster from High-A Lake Elsinore before the game.
Notes: Right-handed reliever Nick Kuzia and Tyler moved from Lake Elsinore to Fort Wayne and TinCaps right-hander Tom Colletti was sent to extended spring training. Right-hander Jonathan Guzman was released.
