TinCaps 8 Beloit 1
TinCaps easily win series opener
Dwanya Williams-Sutton hit a home run and went 3 for 5, Xavier Edwards added three hits and starting pitcher Gabe Mosser went six strong innings to lead the TinCaps over the Beloit Snappers 8-1 in the opener of a three-game series Thursday at Pohlman Field in Wisconsin.
The Snappers (9-20), who came in with the worst record in the Midwest League, got their only run on a leadoff home run by Lester Madden in the first inning. After that, it was all TinCaps as Fort Wayne (14-18) scored two in the second, three in the third and two more in the seventh to break the game open.
Williams-Sutton was part of all three of those rallies. He scored on a Lee Solomon double in the second, singled in Agustin Ruiz in the third and blasted his second home run of the season to lead off the seventh. He scored twice and drove in two runs.
Mosser didn't need much support, giving up just the home run to Madden in his second straight six-inning outing. He surrendered five hits, struck out six and walked one, earning the win to improve to 2-1.
Edwards went 3 for 4 with a run scored and two walks. He is the Midwest League's batting leader, hitting .370.
Solomon had two hits and a walk and drove in two, while Tucupita Marcano went 1 for 5 with a run scored to extend his hitting streak to nine games an his on-base streak to 14.
