Lake County 4 TinCaps 3

Leadoff homer sets tone in loss

Journal Gazette

The TinCaps pushed across three runs in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough Monday as Fort Wayne opened a three-game series against the Lake County Captains with a 4-3 loss at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.

The TinCaps (15-20) stand at 3-3 on their eight-game, 10-day road trip, on which Eastlake is the final stop.

The first pitch that Fort Wayne starter Ramon Perez threw ended up over the fence off the bat of Quentin Holmes. It was Holmes' first home run since Aug. 10, 2017, and gave the Captains (20-15) a lead they would hold all night.

Holmes added a steal of home in the fifth, part of a three-run inning that pushed the Lake County advantage to 4-0 before the TinCaps came to bat in the sixth.

In the TinCaps' three-run sixth, Agustin Ruiz and Justin Lopez had RBI singles and Dwanya Williams-Sutton drew a bases-loaded walk. Lopez went 2 for 4.

Perez (0-2) took the loss after giving up four runs in four innings.
