Lake County 5 TinCaps 4
TinCaps' losing streak reaches 3
The TinCaps dropped their third consecutive game Tuesday despite a three-hit night from Xavier Edwards, falling 5-4 to the Lake County Captains at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.
The winning run came across in the bottom of the eighth inning off TinCaps reliever Jose Quezada. Tyler Freeman tripled with one out and later came in with the game's final tally on a wild pitch. The run broke a 4-4 deadlock and secured the series for the Captains (21-15).
Edwards had a big night at the plate, singling three times, driving in two runs and scoring one of his own. He leads the Midwest League in hitting with a .368 average. Jose Fernandez went 2 for 4 and scored twice for Fort Wayne (15-21).
TinCaps starter Efrain Contreras went four innings, giving up three runs and striking out four without issuing a walk.
Fort Wayne failed to score in the final four innings against two Lake County relievers, including Zach Draper (2-0), who got the win.
