Police investigate death at BF Goodrich plant

JIM CHAPMAN | The Journal Gazette

Authorities are investigating a death at the B.F. Goodrich plant near Woodburn early today.

Capt. Steve Stone of the Allen County Sheriff's Department said police were called about 3 a.m. about an industrial accident in which a man died. No foul play is suspected, Stone said.

The Allen County Coroner's Office identified the man as Sean Redden, 48, of Fort Wayne. Redden died from multiple crush injuries due to an industrial press accident, the coroner said.

Eric S. Bruner, director of communications for Michelin North America, said the death occurred during a maintenance procedure at the plant.

“We are extremely sad to report that an employee at the BFGoodrich Tires facility in Fort Wayne died early this morning during a maintenance procedure at the plant," the company said. "Deputies from the Allen County Sheriff's Department and other emergency crews responded to the incident and federal authorities were notified. We are in the beginning phase of an investigation of the factors that led to this tragic event, but our primary focus at this time is on the employee's family and other people who work at the site. On the company's behalf, we offer our deepest sympathies to the family during this time of grief.”
